Get Your Own Breastfeeding Law Cards at NursingFreedom.org

From NursingFreedom.org: How many times have you talked to someone who was simply not aware of laws governing Nursing in Public?  We want to make sure you are always prepared to educate others and to protect your right to feed your child when needed regardless of location.  We have created State-specific reference cards that you can show someone if you are being harassed illegally or that you can hand out to friends and family.

We have lots of options!

The front of each card has a beautiful grayscale image of a nursing child and one of three themes:  Affirmations, Rights, or Benefits.  Here is an example of the Breastfeeding Affirmations Card (see Order Page for images of the other cards):

The full-color back of each card has the applicable State and Federal Laws protecting your right to Nurse in Public along with a statement asking the reader to respect your rights.  Here is an example of the back of the card for Utah showing the Utah State flag and the US Flag:

Laminated Wallet Reference Cards – these sturdy and durable cards are 3″ x 4″ and laminated to last through years.  This is a must have for every nursing mom!  Get one for yourself, your breastfeeding friends, or as a great baby shower gift.  Come in quantities of 1, 5, or 10.

Business Card Hand Outs – these are made from cardstock and are 2″ by 3.5″ and are available in lots of 10, 20, and 30.  These are less durable but more affordable so you can hand them out everywhere you go!

The more you order the larger the discount!  We have tried to have several pricing options so that the cards are accessible to everyone.  Proceeds help Dionna and Paige offset costs associated with running NursingFreedom.org.

  1. What a great carnival.

Boobs or bottles and what’s all the fuss about NIP
When I was having babies, circa 1970’s, I considered nursing and bottle feeding just as a choice or preference – one way just as good as the other. I think I felt that nursing was very old fashioned because even my mother hadn’t nursed my sister and I. My husband and I talked about it and decided that he would be able to feed his child too if we chose bottle feeding. They had a bottle that was said to be the same as breast feeding because it didn’t let air in the baby’s belly. I don’t remember what they were called but it was a collapsible bag that stretched over the bottomless bottle and the nipple stretched over the bag at the top and held the bag on. Those bags meant no sterilizing bottles. I thought it was very progressive and a good choice for my babies. I never knew that formula was less healthy and never thought to ask.

Things were starting to change. In 1975 when I had my first, the doctor told me to start her on baby food at 2 weeks old. He had me starting cereal first and told me I could add something new every 3 days. She had such belly aches and no wonder she slept all night at 3 weeks old. I thought that she needed food because that’s what the doctor told me to do. By 1977 when I had my second, I knew that doctor was an idiot and changed to a pediatrician who had me feed nothing but formula for the first 6 months. This made perfect sense to me because I knew that my 3 week old only WANTED the bottle – but I wasn’t taught to follow my instincts.

Both babies thrived and were happy and bright so I didn’t think it had done any lasting harm. I would love to go back in time and nurse my babies. I will always wonder if it could have prevented the health problems both my children have; Arthritis, Asthma, Depression, we’ll never know.

There is a billboard right up the road from where I live that promotes breastfeeding as a good healthy start for baby. The word is getting out but it seems to me that we need to reach more people, especially young mothers as I was.

I think we should have a national NIP day each month until it is accepted as the norm that it should be. Maybe a PARADE with topless moms and latched babies with a marching band and majorettes. What do you think?
