So I’ve been a terrible blogger lately. I’m going to blame it on this being my favorite time of the year. I love autumn. Right now we are just pre-peak – all the trees have their leaves and some are still green which makes a perfect contrast to the yellows and reds. It looks like the trees are on fire. I’m going to post pictures of our walk in Cuyahoga Falls National Park…um…soon…promise.

Wow, was that a craptacular excuse for a blog post. Let me finish.

When I was a kid we would go hiking near our house (note to self: kids don’t NEED Orlando – this was a vacation to me). Mom and Dad would have my sister and I run ahead to “scout” the trail. In hindsight this was probably their attempt to get some alone time or have that elusive marital thing called a “conversation.” For us though it was great fun. We would run ahead until there was a bridge or other obstruction and then run back to Mom and Dad to warn them about it. Not only did we think what we were doing was greatly important but we were getting double the workout. I’m sure Mom and Dad loved how easily we slept after these hikes.

I still love to hike and I hope to help Aellyn love it too. Here are some pics from our hike the other day.

CVNP - Cuyahoga River

The National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron is closed and becoming a school. Such a bummer because it was really a lot of fun. I would have loved to take my kids there. So DH and I started talking about places we wanted to take our kids. Like COSI in Columbus, Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, and the Boston Science Museum Solar System walk. I can’t wait to see my kid’s eyes light up the first time she sees the moons of Jupiter or a sun spot during the day. My Dad putting the telescope together was always a great treat when I was a kid. It helps to nourish that wonder that the universe is big and beautiful and amazing.

Ok, new series of posts planned. DH and I were talking about what we are most looking forward to in parenthood. I’m going to post them a little at a time.

I can’t wait to dance with my child. When they are little just twirling them in my arms…and later I can move the furniture out of the way and teach them to jitterbug like my mom did with my sister and I.

I love to dance and I love music. When I was a kid it felt like we danced every day. My dad would put records on and I’d dance and dance. I said when I turned 5 (and was, of course, all grown up) Dad would take me to Yew Nork City and he’d play records while I danced on stage.
