Children’s Books That Promote Natural Family Values

March is National Reading Month!  This is something I’m passionate about as a former teacher and current librarian – books are so important!  Finding books that also support your parenting philosophy and worldview can be difficult.  I’ve compiled a list of books for children that illustrate natural parenting as well as children’s books for assisted reproduction families!  I’m using Amazon.com to organize my books and, should you want to purchase one and do so through one of these links, I get a small referral fee.  However, you can also find a book you like and patronize your local library!

I’ve marked with a * the books that are religious in nature.  Click the link for a synopsis of each book and reviews.

Children’s Books About Homeschooling

Some of these books show a very traditional “school at home” model while I’m more “unschooling” and natural learning. However, there are so few books for children on the topic I thought that just having books in the house that normalize not going to school would be valuable.

Children’s Books About Assisted Reproduction and Non-traditional Families

It is so important that children have stories that normalize their origins (I keep using “normalize” but please don’t think I mean being “normal” is the goal). I haven’t included adoption books but there are many so check amazon!

  4. So many good books out there — a suggestion for a book that will give your kids a whole new way of looking at the trees and nature – “PersonaliTrees,” which is a beautiful book filled with stunning photographs of trees that show human emotion and human conditions, such as happy, elated, even loyal. Then there are quotations to match the books. What I think would be just so fun to do is go exploring with kids and camera to make your OWN book of photos! Come up with your own descriptions and your own quotations. I just love this plan.

  8. Hi, I just found your post because I was searching for blogs that talk about children’s books. I would like to share information with you about a free new fun and educational resource that you’re viewing audience will appreciate, as it’s for parents with young children ages 1-8. The website is http://storytimeforme.com which plays online stories. We are also looking for authors so if you know of anyone that writes books please send them my way!
